Instant gratification world

I was watching some t.v this afternoon and was bombarded by commercials that really got me thinking. The first one was for a tent from Canadian Tire...the 10 second tent, or the 60 second tent...from set up to take down. SERIOUSLY.....what the heck! What ever happened to family "bonding" as we used to call it, when everyone had to help set up the tent and it took what felt like HOURS and after much mumbling and grumbling it was up lol. I remember a very old army tent my parents had...sheesh, I think the color was like orange or something, that thing was freakin huge, and that special canvas smell that went with it...man....I would camp in that in the back yard and thought it was the BEST!
This is not the tent we had but found a close enough picture of it lol

Another commercial for iPhone's, and Kindles...for reading...seriously....you need a machine to read a book...I think I am regressing or just getting old and fuddy duddy. I like how in the commercial they try to make it look like it's so great to cuddle up in bed with a tablet to read a book online. LOL...NOT EVER GOING TO HAPPEN IN MY HOUSE. You wanna read...GET A REAL BOOK I SAY! There are just some things I cannot go to the dark side on.
I have a few relatives (yes, they are probably reading this and shaking their heads lol) that have to look at their iPhone to check the weather! GO OUTSIDE....LOOK OUTSIDE...whatever happened to "smelling the rain coming" as my Mom used to say lol...or my Oma...she could tell by her aching legs lol.
Now I am not claiming to be the all mighty off grid crazy person....I love the internet...I love t.v....so don't start emailing and throwing the off grid book at me (well if you do, it better be a real one anyways lol) I'm just saying there are a few things that for some reason just blow my mind when it comes to the needs of people these days and how they need everything NOW....maybe living in the Cariboo has changed me that much that things like these bother me.
I was also watching Anderson Cooper on t.v too...and he had a lady on who was promoting her cook book and she has some fresh veggies and fruits on the table...and Anderson had no idea what Kale was...he admitted that he tried a beet for the first time in his life a year ago....WOW....unbelievable. That's not the first time that has shocked me though...a while back I watched a program with some kids in a classroom in the states who were shown a bunch of veggies and fruits as well....they too had no clue what a tomato was...they were asked things like where does ketchup come from...again...they had no clue...so pathetic really...that this is the state of our earth...that kids don't know what a potato or tomato is.
Now my kids don't like gardening, and they mostly just shake their heads at me and my garden craziness, but you can be damn sure they know what a freakin tomato is!!!
Well that's my vent for the day! Happy gardening...or happy instant living!!!

Nothin but RAIN

Seriously....I thought I had enough of this rain when I lived on the coast for the first 30 years of my life!!!!!! It feels as if it has been raining since March 30, with the exception of one or two nice days.....HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE....sheesh.
On days like this one would think you would curl up with a good book and a cup of tea and just relax and read....well that ship sailed about a month ago...I can only read so many books and drink so much freakin tea!!!!!
I have three days off and I really really really wanted to spend it on the farm...if it wasn't raining so darn much I probably would have tented there just to get some peace and quiet away from the city.
We had new neighbors move into the town house next door. WELL.....4...YOUNG...LOUD...FIRE FIGHTERS....supposedly they fight forest fires and when they are not doing that they clean up the brush from the sides of the road to prevent fires. I have yet to see them do ANYTHING but piss me off with their loud door slamming, banging around their townhouse as if they were in the same room as me AND taking my parking spot. Yeah.....that last one did not last long...when I got home from work late on night....I banged on their door and told them they had 20 seconds to move their car or a tow truck would do it for them. The one guy said "we can't do this tomorrow", I said "I am going to bed in 3 minutes after I walk in that door, so you tell me if you want to look for your car tonight or tomorrow morning after it's towed, but I think it's best if you move it now" and then I gave him the "mother death stare" as he promptly got his shoes on and moved the car.
Now before you think I am some horrible grumpy old hag...there is VERY limited parking here in the hood, and there is ONE of us parking as to their 4 vehicles...so when they take up 4 spots and take away from three other families who would like to be able to park in front of their own freakin homes, it makes me angry. I understand they are young and dumb....but I am OLD AND BOLD lol. So I am here to teach them a small lesson in life LOL....may the Lord be with them as they navigate through this wonderful experience!!!! LOL
I can't believe I am still cranky even after having a Timmies this morning LOL...oh boy...I think I may have to go buy some rose colored sunglasses to brighten up this day lol.
Or I will close my eyes and dream of laying on our local beach on the wonderful Canim Lake near us. The day this picture was taken last week, was one of those FEW days where we had no rain....as it turns out...it rained the very next day!

Coopdaville

Well my dream has come true...I finally got a trailer to convert to a hen house for my future chickens. The background story to this trailer is a good one too. Waaaaaayyyy back in Jan I was looking through one of the local facebook web pages for locals here that like to sell, barter or trade. A lady on this one particular site was looking for a old trailer, and another lady said she had one but it needed some work. The other lady declined so I asked if I maybe could have it. ( this trailer was free!)
So she said yes, but at the time it was very wintery and covered in snow. So...FINALLY this last week we picked it up and brought it to the farm.

I can hardly wait to paint the outside, make the laying boxes and get it all nice and chicken cozy!!!!!! I am just trying to figure out the perfect name and color for it now!!!!

Grown on

Well I find it hard to do blog posts from here in the city, since the whole basis of my blog was about being in the country. However, I have been doing a few things out back on the property that have stirred my creative juices a bit.
So as you can see, I have many things growing everywhere in my very tiny small growing space here in the city. In the longer stretch along the townhouse, I have lettuce and radishes in the two pots, sunflowers in the corner coming along great guns, and near the end I have 6 cabbage, a few cucumber plants and another few sunflowers. Also growing on the window sill like crazy is lettuce and green onions.
I am so happy to at least being growing in the city!!! Where there's a will there's a way!!!!!
